My first travel into lighting land…

We’ll I’ve made my first travels into the lighting world for the Master’s College Truth and Life Conference 2009: Suffering in the Life of a Believer. (Great conference by the way, find resoourceshere).  A few custom gobos, Color Kinetics Colorblast 12’s, High-End Studio Spot 575 CMY’s, an ETC Ion console to control it all…a tripped breaker or two (temporarily of course) and I’d say it went pretty well.  We just did some basic looks for the conference sessions because we really got the whole package for the band’s concert on Friday night.  I didn’t have as much time or knowledge as I’d have liked to setup cues for the concert, but it still went off pretty well.  I’m going to try to upload some pics that one of our awesome volunteers took.

So that’s my entry into the large world of lighting.  I was really impressed with the Ion console.  It is amazing.  I’d highly recommend it to anyone.  And I think our whole tech crew is in agreement that the custom gobos were a great investment, worth every cent and we can keep them for years to come.  The package was fairly affordable and the main limitations I found was mainly due to the fact that we were in a gym.  I did find it very useful to use a program called Google SketchUp to do a 3-D model of our gym and where lights would be positioned.  it allowed me to show the physical layout to my bosses and allowed me to meaure and figure out how large the light circles would be (for example the gobo projection).  Google SketchUp is a great program and the non-pro version is free from Google (what will they come up to next).

Well that’s all the geek I can write for now.
