Come Christmas Sing at The Master’s College
So I do sound for the Master’s College. And every year our Music Department puts on a series of Christmas Concerts. We transform our gym over Thanksgiving weekend and the concerts start Tuesday night the week after Thanksgiving and end with two concerts on Saturday. In total about 2800-3000 people come to the concerts.
The gym transformation is a thing to behold. We start with a empty gym and end with stages and black duvateen fabric on three walls, a generator powering 48 dimmer channels to about 90 lights, 3 speaker clusters, 7 amplifiers, two sound consoles, 5 multi-pair audio snakes, 700 ft. of video cable, 4 cameras, a 10′x14′ screen, etc. etc.
We ran 71 channels of audio (not to mention some stem mixes from the sub-board into the main board), 6 monitor channels, 8 record busses. The concert has symphonic orchestra, some rhythm instruments, a hand-bell choir, twelve pianos, 10-person singing group, and several numbers done in the the round with stages on 270-degrees of the audience.
Most all of this is student produced with staff only supervising the student work.
I’m attaching the excel sheet I use every year to help organize things. Some of the spreadsheet tabs are older, but the first two tabs have the layout for the consoles for this year’s concert series.
